Last night I went to the Barbican with a few mates to hear an all Brahms concert! We heard Brahms 3rd symphony and then his Piano Concerto No. 1 in D minor. I really enjoyed the symphony (but then I do know it pretty well; can hum along to most of it...!), if you listen to ClassicFM you will probably know the 3rd movement. Very basically it's Brahms rejoicing in his bachelorhood... strange hey? The concerto was performed by Pierre-Laurent Aimard and was pretty impressive indeed. Not the most powerful and dramatic performance of the concerto I've heard but certainly very enjoyable! The concerto is about 50 minutes long yet my favourite part is when the piano first enters!
Check out 3:40-3:51, isn't it gorgeous?
(I was at this concert too, haha!)
At the Barbican. Mr Aimard taking his bow.
